If you are new to the world of short term car insurance then you will likely be unaware of the cost of a one day policy. Getting a cheap temporary car insurance quote is going to depend on a number of factors most of which are out of your control.
I have previously written about how you can compare cheap daily car insurance quotes in order to save you money so I will just breeze over the highlights here. There are two easy ways to save money, insure for a block of days and accept a voluntary excess.
The more consecutive days you take out cover for the cheaper it is going to be per day. Of course this is only going to be useful if you are flexible in the length of time you need your short term cover for.
You can also shave about a fifth of the cost of your policy if you accept a voluntary excess. There is more than likely already going to be a compulsory element in your policy so why not add the excess and save yourself a few quid. Statistically you are unlikely to need to have to make a claim for just one day so it is up to you if you are willing to take the risk to save some money.
As with all types of car insurance it is the younger driver who is going to be hit hardest. Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do about your age but you can increase your voluntary excess as previously mentioned to save a few pounds.
Unfortunately there is currently no way to get daily insurance under 21. There used to be insurers offering this type of policy but it was withdrawn due to the policies no longer being underwritten. The closest alternative for under 21's is currently the monthly pay as you go policy.
This type of policy is designed to offer cover for as little as 1 day. You can expect to pay around thirty pounds for a days coverage, slightly less if you are a more experienced driver. There is however restrictions on the type of vehicle you can drive, namely high insurance group cars are excluded.
A company called eCar insurance offers a flexible policy that can be managed entirely online. They do however limit their short term policy to drivers of at least 25 years of age. If you are under 25 you can opt for their pay as you go monthly policy that will provide cover for a minimum of one month. This is a more expensive option than a daily policy but still much cheaper than a full annual cover.
